Polanco's hit sparks Pirates' 3-2 victory against Padres

Gregory Polanco put together four strong plate appearances prior to the eighth inning tonight. Twice he lined out to left field. Twice he walked. The fifth time around he again lined the ball to left, but this time he smoked it and he found grass.

Polanco’s eighth-inning triple scored Sean Rodriguez and broke a tie. The Pirates ended a long, wet night at PNC Park by beating the San Diego Padres, 3-2. The Pirates won for the fourth game in a row and for the ninth game out of their previous 11.

The rain delay cost the Padres their starting pitcher, Tyson Ross, and forced their bullpen to cover six innings.
