Pirates Rumors: Pirates to trade for Padres closer Huston Street?

In this Pirates rumors and news update, the Pittsburgh Pirates are one of several teams currently on the market for late-inning relief help - a need they could address by targeting San Diego Padres closer Huston Street.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, "the Pirates are said to be among other teams to check in on Street, with the Orioles and Giants mentioned in a speculative sense as possibilities."

The Pirates have already traded for and traded away a closer this year, dealing Jason Grilli to the Los Angeles Angels for Ernesto Frieri. However, Frieri has been absolutely lit up in his first seven appearances with the club, giving up six earned runs in just four innings pitched (13.50 ERA).

With the Milwaukee Brewers backsliding to the pack in the NL Central, the Pittsburgh Pirates are within striking distance of taking control of the division. Adding an impact arm such as Street (1.09 ERA in 33 innings) could provide the Pirates boost they need to achieve such separation.
