Pirates News: Pirates to trade Wandy Rodriguez to Red Sox or Yankees?

In Pirates news tonight, after designating struggling left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez for assignment last week, the Pirates may have opened up the market when it comes to perhaps trading him.

Per Robert Murray of Sports Rumor Alert, "if the medicals on him aren't as bad as many believe, the feeling is some team will take a chance on him, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe."

Rodriguez has been battling an arthritic elbow all season, so it is possible that it may be really tough to trade the 35-year-old hurler.

However, if he checks out, the Boston Red Sox may emerge as the front-runner for his services. The Sox have had an eye on Rodriguez for years and are in desperate need of depth at the back of their starting rotation. Yet, Rodriguez is still owed around $8 million on the season - a price would could prove too rich for the blood of the Red Sox.

That leaves the New York Yankees. The Yankees put feelers out for Rodriguez during his time in Houston and could very well be willing to eat the cost for the veteran pitcher if they feel they can get a quick return.
