Al McCoy to be added to Suns Ring of Honor

Al McCoy has kept a 44-year run of calling Phoenix Suns games, the longest play-by-play tenure for one team in NBA history, because he loves the job, the game and the people and he always has held out hope of getting the honor of a ring.

The Ring of Honor found him first.

McCoy, 83, was surprised during a first-quarter time out of Wednesday night’s season opener with Suns managing partner Robert Sarver announcing that the “Voice of the Suns” will become the Suns Ring of Honor’s 15th member. The game also gave McCoy the NBA record for broadcasting tenure, surpassing Los Angeles Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn.
