Suns Throwback: Almost Admiral

The Suns weren't good in 1986-87. But they weren't terrible, either.

That's why their hopes were realistic entering the third NBA Draft Lottery that summer. The Clippers and Knicks, among others, had struggled far worse than they, and thus had much higher hopes of landing the No. 1 overall pick of the 1987 NBA Draft.

There was an extra edge of eagerness around this particular year's top pick. The prize, Navy's seven-foot center David Robinson -- was almost a foregone conclusion, even with his upcoming military service throwing a unique wrinkle into the mix.
