Arizona Coyotes sign Jordan Martinook to 2-year deal

The Coyotes avoided arbitration with restricted free agent Jordan Martinook, signing the forward to a two-year contract worth a reported $1.8 million average annual value on Saturday.

Martinook and the Coyotes were scheduled to meet in Toronto Wednesday for a hearing after Martinook filed for salary arbitration. While Martinook's agent Jeff Helperl described talks as having gone "nowhere" at the time Martinook filed, negotiations had been going well this week.

The 24-year-old appeared in 77 games with the Coyotes in 2016-17, his second full-length season in the NHL. Martinook tallied a career-high 11 goals and 25 points and was extremely valuable for his versatility.
