Carlos Ruiz calls it a career after 23 years in soccer

Former Philadelphia Union forward Carlos Ruiz announced his retirement after 23 years of professional soccer.

Ruiz joined the Union for the 2011 season, where he scored six goals in just 14 appearances. None may be more familiar to Union fans than his game winning strike against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Philadelphia's home opener, or his 35-yard strike against Chicago Fire, which earned him the MLS Goal of the Week honors.

Ruiz bounced around the world playing soccer, suiting up for a total of 10 teams, including other MLS franchises of LA Galaxy, FC Dallas, Toronto FC and DC United.
