Phillies Pete Mackanin Mismanages Game

Over these first two months of the 2016 season, Pete Mackanin has rarely committed a misstep in managing his ball club.

Mackanin has pressed the right buttons more often than not, including knowing when to pull the plug on closers, managing innings with his younger starting pitchers, and finally accepting the fact that someone like Tyler Goeddel needed to play if they were to receive any return on their Rule 5 investment.

However, Monday night’s loss to the Washington Nationals was an example of how managers can sometimes lose games that the players deserved to win.
