Phillies come back, win first road series since April

SEATTLE — The way Freddy Galvis saw it, in harsher terms, these Phillies had no more to lose. The hole was dug, the shortcomings exposed. He went off on an expletive-filled tirade Monday, and it was not a surrender. It was a plea to start anew.

The Phillies, who authored a 5-4 comeback win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, have won two games in two days since Galvis’ impassioned rant. Did his words matter? Probably not. But the team with the worst record in baseball has been kicked around enough, so two road wins against a middling team generated enough energy to carry the charter flight back east.
