Fumbling Phillies get torched by Mets, 24-4, in Game 1 of doubleheader

So, about those “stimulating and invigorating” feelings that Phillies manager Gabe Kapler had after Wednesday night’s “special” victory over the Boston Red Sox?

They lasted for about 17 hours.

At the substantial risk of insulting the 13-year-olds that they will visit Sunday in Williamsport, the Phillies played a game befitting Little Leaguers in the opener of a doubleheader Thursday at Citizens Bank Park. They committed four errors — giving them nine in the last four games — and allowed 11 unearned runs in a 24-4 loss to the New York Mets that featured position players recording the final nine outs of the game and backup shortstop Scott Kingery lobbing in pitches so slowly that they didn’t even register a speed on the radar gun.
