Former Malvern Prep star Tim Cooney will pitch Thursday vs. Phillies

ST. LOUIS - A white No. 66 St. Louis Cardinals uniform hung in the locker stall sandwiched between those belonging to Adam Wainwright and Carlos Martinez. Tim Cooney arrived at Busch Stadium on Wednesday in time to take batting practice with the other pitchers and live the life of a major-leaguer.

Cooney, a 24-year-old from Collegeville and Malvern Prep, will make his big-league debut Thursday afternoon against his hometown team. The 6-foot-3 lefthander was promoted from triple A to take the rotation spot of Wainwright, the Cardinals' ace who suffered a season-ending Achilles tear on Saturday.

Cooney "grew up a pretty big Phillies fan," he said.
