With Chanukah in full swing, this felt like an appropriate time to review the season of one of the two Jewish players who spent time on the Phillies’ roster in 2023. Unfortunately, unlike Garrett Stubbs who at least supplied good vibes and clubhouse celebrations, Dalton Guthrie didn’t supply much for the 2023 Phillies.
Guthrie was drafted by the Phillies in the sixth round of the 2017 draft. He rose through the system and made his major league debut in September 2022. He showed some strong on-base skills in that year-end cameo, and he was considered one of the favorites to win a bench spot in 2023.
