Ray Emery, former Flyers goalie, drowns in Ontario

Former Flyers goalie Ray Emery died at age 35 while swimming in Ontario on Sunday morning.

The Flyers confirmed his death late Sunday afternoon.

The Hamilton Spectator reported a man drowned after visiting a friend’s boat at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club. It did not name the victim, but Toronto photojournalist Andrew Collins reported it was Emery.

“I’m really, really saddened by this stunning news,” said Paul Holmgren, the Flyers club president and the team’s general manager when the Flyers signed Emery in 2009.

Emery and his friends reportedly went swimming in Hamilton Harbor at around 6 a.
