Shane Ryan looked destined for the same fate two days in a row: Missing out on a final just outside of the bubble.
After finishing 17th in the prelims in the 50-yard freestyle Friday, just one spot outside of the 'B' final, he tied for eighth Saturday in the prelims for the 100-yard backstroke.
He went into a swim-off with Taylor Dale of University of Georgia, with whom he tied at 45.27, to decide who would swim in the 'A' championship final for a chance at a gold and who would be relegated to the 'B' consolation final.
