Penn State coach Amanda Lehotak has said at length this season that the Nittany Lions put a great focus on excelling in all three phases of their game — quality pitching, solid defense and productive offense.
When even just one of those phases goes awry though, Penn State winds up on the losing end of a game more often than not, just like it did in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Maryland in 11 innings.
The Nittany Lions were held to one hit for the second time in four days and spoiled another great pitching display from Jessica Cummings.
