Penn State says 'no reasonable person in Shoop's position would have felt compelled to resign,' in response to ex-coach's countersuit

WILLIAMSPORT -- Penn States says Bob Shoop was aware of his buyout provisions and was "not threatened with discharge" when he left for Tennessee in 2016, according to a filing Friday in U.S. Middle District Court.

PSU is suing Shoop, its former defensive coordinator, for $891,856, after he left with two years left on his contract to take the same position with the Vols.

Shoop is countersuing Penn State, claiming he left the Nittany Lions because of "intolerable" working conditions and that the university breached his contract.

Shoop said, according to court documents, he "was constructively discharged/terminated from, or forced or compelled to leave his employment with Penn State.
