Penn State notebook: Nittany Lions moving closer to starting decisions

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — If Penn State played a game this Saturday James Franklin said junior-college transfer Paris Palmer likely would be the team’s starting left tackle.

Penn State has 10 days until the Sept. 5 season opener against Temple, giving Franklin time to figure out many of the team’s position battles, including who will protect quarterback Christian Hackenberg’s blindside. Penn State hasn’t released a depth chart yet, but typically does so the Tuesday before the season opener.

“If we were playing Saturday I think Paris is in a position to start at left tackle,” Franklin said Wednesday after the team’s practice.
