Brandon Waller, recovered from broken jaw, Spiders aim to correct defensive bite

Brandon Waller’s comeback story from a broken jaw begins with a smile.

“I made the tackle. I always start with that. I made the tackle,” said Waller, a University of Richmond senior defensive lineman.

Against James Madison early last November, Waller was among a few Spiders who brought down a Dukes’ ball-carrier.

“My head just kind of got pinned forward – It happens in tackles when you’re in a pile – and at the same time my head was getting pinned forward, the running back’s knee came up and sandwiched the only place that you’re vulnerable with the helmet on, under the chin,” said Waller.
