STOCKTON - It took a half but the Delta College men's basketball team finally cooled off hot-shooting Sacramento City with strong defense and some timely shooting.
The Mustangs' 13-1 run late gave them the lead for good in an 86-71 Big 8 Conference victory Friday at Blanchard Gymnasium.
The Panthers scored on their first nine possessions to race to a 19-11 advantage, but Jovian Cormier was an inside force and scored Delta's (9-8, 2-2 Big 8) first four buckets to help keep his squad close.
Cormier scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, but Sac City (10-8, 2-2) connected on 6 of 13 3-point shots to help fuel a 46-40 halftime lead.
