Diederich capitalizes on opportunity

STOCKTON – Jessica Diederich and Lexi Elman both are from Omaha, Nebraska, and have known each other since grade school.

Both arrived at Pacific in the same recruiting class in 2013. While Elman established herself immediately at outside hitter and libero and made the West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team, Diederich mostly watched from the bench her first two seasons before she redshirted last year. But the 5-foot-7 setter never lost faith that some day she would earn a prominent playing role.

That day has arrived.

Since late September, Diederich has been utilized by Coach Greg Gibbons as a second setter in a 6-2 alignment with redshirt sophomore Andie Shelton, a move that has allowed Shelton to employ her attacking skills more, thus increasing the Tigers’ firepower offensively.
