Spotlight shines on Gatineau’s Brassard on first day of camp with Senators
When you’re playing in your own backyard, the spotlights are that much brighter, the microscope that much bigger.
And so it is for Derick Brassard, the 29-year-old Gatineau native who instantly inherited great expectations when the Senators acquired him from the New York Rangers in July’s trade for Mika Zibanejad.
Brassard, who scored 27 goals and 31 assists last season, is expected to help drive the Senators offence, while adding a fair measure of experience to a team which had far too many meltdowns in 2015-16.
