Ottawa Senators forward Curtis Lazar plenty popular before visit by Edmonton Oilers

The most interviewed player in either of the crowded dressing rooms after Thursday’s morning skates was not Connor McDavid, although he was willing to play the part.

“Did I tell you guys I’m changing to No. 97 tonight?” Curtis Lazar joked in reference to his friend down the hall.

Lazar and McDavid became tight when they were roommates during the 2015 world junior championship, but the Senators centre also has a number of other acquaintances on an Edmonton Oilers team coach Dave Cameron pointed out is “not a one-trick pony”.

Most of them, he knew from his days as an Edmonton Oil King, sharing the same home rink as the NHL team.
