How Bruce Firestone, Randy Sexton and Cyril Leeder hatched a plan to get the NHL to Ottawa

It's a dream come true, complete with the storybook ending of winning a franchise.

"They shot. We scored," read the lede on the top story of the Ottawa Sun on Dec. 7, 1990, a day after the city was awarded an

expansion franchise.

Twenty-five years later, here we are -- and the Senators are going strong.

The hard work, determination, long hours, sweat and tears paid off at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Fla., when a group led by Terrace Investments was awarded an expansion franchise to begin play in the 1992-93 campaign with a group from Tampa.
