Ex-Senators goaltender Robin Lehner out of World Cup

Throughout his career with the Ottawa Senators, goaltender Robin Lehner served as a never-ending soap opera due to his assorted controversial comments and injuries.

Now comes word that Lehner, traded to Buffalo following the 2015-16 season, won’t be joining Senators captain Erik Karlsson on Sweden’s World Cup team. (Toronto’s Jhonas Enroth will take his spot as a back-up to Henrik Lundqvist and Jacob Markstrom).

Lehner is still not quite right after injuring his ankle in the season opener last year against the Senators. After returning to the lineup, he won only five games and had season-ending surgery in March.
