When Jimmy Hewitt approached Pat Williams with a crazy idea, the Orlando Magic was only a dream. There was no arena. There was barely a downtown Orlando.
The city was still a small one. A community that was quickly growing in the first decade-plus since Disney set up camp in nearby Kissimmee.
The thought around NBA circles was that it would soon expand into Florida in the late 1980s. Miami was already on the list. They were looking at possibly another city with Jacksonville and Tampa on the list with Miami.
