First of all, we don't really know for sure if the Orlando Magic put out any feelers in regards to hiring former Florida Gators basketball coach Billy Donovan, who just accepted the job with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
However, it seems doubtful the Magic pursued Donovan based upon reports by the Sentinel's Josh Robbins that the Magic coaching search is focused on candidates with NBA head-coaching experience. This was a mistake on the Magic's part.
I'm not saying the Magic could have convinced Donovan that their coaching position is more attractive than the championship-ready job at Oklahoma City, but they should have at least tried.
