1. This was a practice with multiple "highlight" contenders. During red-zone work with the first-team offense facing the second-team defense, Jake Luton lofted a nice ball to Trevon Bradford in the corner of the end zone, which was knocked away by Jeffrey Manning and then picked off my Omar Hicks-Onu. True freshman running back Calvin Tyler, who continues to get some reps with the first unit, also made a nice bobbling catch out of the backfield.
3. The defense also continues to put unique personnel groupings on the field. Wednesday, starters like Bright Ugwoegbu, Jonathan Willis, Paisa Savea, Kalani Vakameilalo and Jay Irvine were running with Grant, Landry Payne and Hamilton Hunt.
