Ducks Drop Thriller At California In Double OT

Box Score BERKELEY — Any notion that enthusiasm from Oregon's players is flagging was put to rest Friday during a valiant comeback attempt at California, though that couldn't avert the Ducks' fifth straight loss, 52-49, in double overtime before 43,048 in Memorial Stadium.

How It Happened: Freshman quarterback Justin Herbert, making his first career start on the road, threw his fifth touchdown pass of regulation to tie the game at 42-42 with 3:15 to play. Cal drove into position for a field-goal attempt as time expired, but UO coach Mark Helfrich used his last two timeouts to ice the kicker, and the attempt was wide left.
