Lilley Goes To Great Lengths To Improve, Then And Now

Editor, GoDucks.com

OKLAHOMA CITY — Back and forth they drove, from Great Lake to Great Lake, touching three states each round trip.

Sometimes, while her mother was at the wheel, Jenna Lilley would sit in the passenger seat and help pass the time, chatting and listening to music. Sometimes, she pulled out her books and tried to study.

And yes, sometimes, Lilley admitted sheepishly, she'd crawl into the back seat and sleep.

There were six hours to pass each direction, maybe six-and-a-half. Every Sunday, eight months out of the year, Lilley and her mom would wake up at their home near Akron, Ohio, cross the southern tip of Lake Erie, continue through the state of Indiana, turn right at the southern tip of Lake Michigan and arrive in Chicago.
