Ragan Smith among four named to U.S. team for world gymnastics championships

USA TODAY Sports

U.S. national champion Ragan Smith was one of four gymnasts named Wednesday to the team competing in the world championships next month.

Ashton Locklear, Jade Carey and Morgan Hurd were also chosen for the team after a selection camp at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center in Texas. Jordan Chiles was selected as the non-traveling alternate.

The world championships, which do not have a team competition this year and include all-around and individual events, run Oct. 2-8 in Montreal.

Smith won the P&G Championship in August, giving her a first national title on the 25th anniversary of Kim Zmeskal-Burdette, Smith’s coach, winning her third.
