Italy: Another Olympic bid unlikely for 20 years

ROME (AP) — Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Malago says another bid isn't likely for "the next 20 years" after the Rome 2024 candidacy was rejected by Mayor Virginia Raggi.

Malago says, "Anything can happen but it seems unlikely that there will be another Italian Olympics candidacy for the next 20 years."

Raggi formally announced her opposition to the bid on Wednesday out of costs concerns, effectively dooming Rome's candidacy for the second time in four years.

Los Angeles, Paris, and Budapest are the other 2024 candidates. The IOC will decide on the host city in September 2017.
