Australia bans two swimmers from closing ceremony, places curfew on team

The Australian Olympic Committee banned swimmers Josh Palmer and Emma McKeon from the Rio Games’ closing ceremony after they failed to return to the Olympic Village with teammates after an outing at a Copacabana nightclub Tuesday night.

AOC chief Kitty Chiller also announced in a statement all swimmers were put on a 2 a.m. curfew through Sunday’s closing ceremony.

"Palmer and McKeon's behavior was unacceptable and they breached disciplinary protocols,” Chiller. said. “I have raised the need for the swimming team leader to ensure he is aware of his athlete's whereabouts when leaving the Olympic Village."

Palmer “continued drinking” with a friend, according to a statement released by the AOC.
