Red Gerard didn’t need much time Sunday to win the USA’s first medal of these Olympics.
The 17-year-old snowboarder captured gold with a dominant final run Sunday morning to launch the U.S. team in the medal standings. It’s the second consecutive Olympics in which a men’s slopestyle rider has won the first U.S. medal, following Sage Kotsenburg’s victory in Sochi.
