A day after opening the season with 13 runs, Old Dominion bettered that Saturday. The Monarchs scored three more in a 16-8 nonconference baseball victory over LIU Brooklyn at Bud Metheny Complex.
West Virginia transfer Shaun Wood had two hits and four RBIs and Nick Walker (Kellam), Zach Rutherford (Western Branch), Kurt Sinnen (Kellam) and Vinnie Pasquantino added two hits each for ODU (2-0), which led 13-1 after five innings.
Rutherford and Culver Lamb (Tallwood) each drove in a pair of runs.
Right-hander Morgan Maguire started and earned the win. He allowed eight hits and two runs in five innings, while striking out six and walking none.
