Galaisha “Gigi” Goodhope wasn’t so fortunate. She was a basketball star at Norfolk Christian and Princess Anne high schools who was named The Virginian-Pilot's All-Tidewater Player of the Year in 2012.
She was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN and signed with Old Dominion, her hometown school. She played pretty well for two seasons with the Lady Monarchs and was preparing for her junior season when, on a hot August night in 2014, her world came tumbling down.
