Oklahoma State basketball: Cowboy forward Tyrek Coger collapses following workout, dies at hospital

STILLWATER — An Oklahoma State men's basketball player has passed away after collapsing during a team workout.

Tyrek Coger — a junior college transfer from Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C., who arrived at OSU on July 5 — was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m Thursday at Stillwater Medical Center. He was 21 years old. OSU will hold a press conference 11 a.m. Friday to address the news.

OSU coach Brad Underwood was returning from a recruiting trip to Las Vegas and made the following statement in a news release.

“Tyrek was excited to be at Oklahoma State and had such passion for the game and was looking forward to being an OSU Cowboy," Underwood said.
