Conor Costello's health refused to cooperate with his senior send-off from Oklahoma State.
Still, Costello maintained hope of rewriting a mostly lost season, even though his days were numbered.
With one big swing Wednesday night, Costello flipped the script for his Cowboys and himself, sending OSU past Texas 10-4 in a Big 12 Tournament opener at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Shutout into the fifth inning, the Cowboys had managed but three hits — all singles — and barely threatened to score with just one runner reaching as far as second base. But OSU clawed within a run at 4-3 with a flurry of hits and a Texas error, before Costello delivered the big blow the Cowboys were seeking, mashing a grand slam over the bullpen and onto the concourse in left field.
