Quarterback Baker Mayfield is the first-team quarterback elected to the team by the SI editors and writers. He is joined on the first-team offense by tackle and teammate Orlando Brown.
“Mayfield flourished in his second year running Lincoln Riley’s spread attack,” the SI description of the Sooner starting QB went, “leading the nation in completion percentage and earning himself a Heisman Trophy ceremony invitation…Now that Riley has been elevated to head coach, more responsibility falls on the Sooners’ quarterback.”
Mayfield said at Big 12 Media Days last month that he doesn’t want to only make the return trip to New York City and the Heisman presentation at the end of this season, he wants to be the one holding the trophy at the end.
