Joey Helmer, who covers Oklahoma Sooner sports for 247Sports, reported on Thursday that the seven-foot Manyang was suspended after being charged with aggravated assault and battery in connection with an incident that occurred on May 1.
Helmer cited a statement by the Oklahoma athletic department, which had this to say about the situation: “We are aware of the matter, and Akolda has been indefinitely suspended from the team.” No other details were provided by the university.
According to a news story published by the Dallas Morning News, however, Manyang allegedly was involved in an altercation with another man in which he punched the man in the face, breaking a couple of the victim’s teeth.
