Danny Hodge, three-time NCAA wrestling champion at OU and 1956 Olympic medalist, dies at age 88

Danny Hodge, who was a three-time NCAA wrestling champion at OU and won a silver medal in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, died Thursday at age 88 in his hometown of Perry.

Dubbed the "best U.S. wrestler" on a 1957 cover of Sports Illustrated, Hodge lived up to the billing.

Competing under the tutelage of legendary coach Port Robertson, Hodge went 46-0 in his Sooner career. He led OU to its fourth national title in 1957, earning Most Outstanding Wrestler honors. A National Wrestling Hall of Famer, Hodge is one of two collegiate wrestler to win three NCAA titles via fall.
