2015 Oklahoma Sooners Football Countdown To Kickoff | 99 Days!

Oklahoma's Joe Golding was born in 1921 and lived most of his life in Eastern Oklahoma. In the 1946 Red River Rivalry game, Golding picked off a pass from Longhorns' quarterback Tom Landry and returned it 99 yards for a score. The touchdown was the second longest interception in school history (Al Needs returned one for 100 yards against Kansas the year before).

A decorated veteran, Golding's 1951 Bowman football card (photoed above) states that he served 44 months in the military where he won the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. He was commissioned on the battlefield while an "infantry-man" in Europe.
