OU Football: Suspended linebacker Frank Shannon returns, with David Boren's blessing

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma found Frank Shannon responsible for a sexual assault, suspended him for a year — after originally planning to expel him — and fought in court to keep him off campus.

In an Oklahoma Supreme Court filing, OU’s lawyers wrote that Shannon’s suspension was important “to protect students and administrators from threats and/or perceived threats of harm.”

Despite all of that, Shannon — who maintained his innocence in the alleged assault and never faced any criminal charges — returned to OU to play one last season of college football. He’ll be with the Sooners when they begin fall camp Thursday.
