Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Hammon grew up in Rapid City, S.D., the youngest of Martin and Bev Hammon's three children. Following a stellar high school basketball career at Stevens High School, she earned All-American honors at Colorado State in the late 1990s, she was also voted Colorado Sportswoman of the Year.
Undrafted as an WNBA rookie and plagued by several knee injuries throughout her professional playing career, Hammon was a six-time WNBA All-Star – twice finishing first-team All-WNBA. Coincidentally, during her rehabilitation from a 2013 knee injury Hammon attended San Antonio Spurs practices and meetings.
