Best NBA rule suggestion: Reduce timeouts

Sports Illustrated has asked its six NBA writers a simple question. “If you were commissioner for a day, what rule changes would you make to the NBA?”

Excellent question, and a good discussion. You can read the responses of the SI panel here. I’ll give you their answers, sans explanation, with my thoughts. And these are in order of how much I like them:

  1. Phil Taylor: Reduce timeouts. No. 1 answer. Each team gets six timeouts, plus TV timeouts. It kills the flow of the game in the final four minutes. In the final minute, there often are more timeouts than possession.
