Baseball: Ohio State falls flat in series opener against Illinois

The largest crowd of the season settled into its seats anticipating one of the best matchups the Big Ten has had to offer to date between sixth-ranked Illinois and 23rd-ranked Ohio State.

What 2,416 people saw was something of a Rembrandt-like canvas of fastballs and sliders thrown at almost every point of the strike zone by Illini left-hander Kevin Duchene and a team that is every bit as good as its record and ranking.

Duchene gave up three hits and struck out seven in eight innings, and Illinois tagged lefty Tanner Tully for 10 hits and eight runs for an 8-1 victory tonight in Bill Davis Stadium.
