One day before his $4.9M base salary would have become guaranteed, the Oakland Raiders released safety Nate Allen.
Allen had just completed the first year of a 4-year, $23M contract, with $6.9m guaranteed in the first year through base salary and a roster bonus.
The move was hardly a surprise, considering Allen’s disappointing season. He injured his knee after then teammate Ray Ray Armstrong barreled into him at the end of a play, and missed significant time as a result. When Allen returned to the field, his play was mediocre and he again was injured, finishing the year on injured reserve.
