Chip Hale will be bringing his high-energy personality back to the A’s, returning to the club as the team’s third-base coach.
Hale, fired as Arizona’s manager earlier this month, was sought after by several teams for open coaching positions; the Giants, who have two vacancies, are believed to be among those to have approached Hale.
Hale served as the A’s bench coach under Bob Melvin from 2012-14, during the team’s run of three consecutive postseason appearances, and Melvin said Tuesday, “Chip and I have a long history together and we had a lot of success with him here.
