Oakland Athletics Roundup: A Quiet Thanksgiving After Jed Lowrie Trade

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend, Oakland Athletics fans!

On Wednesday, the Oakland Athletics traded pitching prospect Brendan McCurry to the Houston Astros in exchange for former Athletics’ infielder Jed Lowrie. To clear room on the roster, the A’s also designed reliever Daniel Coulombe for assignment.

In an unrelated move, the Athletics announced that former starter A.J. Griffin has been granted his release. Griffin hadn’t pitched for the A’s since 2013, when he went 14-10 over 200 innings with a 3.83 ERA. Since then, he’s spent time both on the disabled listed and in Triple-A as he rehabbed.
