Alonso's catch leads A's past Minnesota Twins

OAKLAND -- Yonder Alonso's diving catch in the seventh inning saved a couple of runs, enabling the A's to stretch their winning streak to three games with a 3-2 victory over the Twins in front of a Memorial Day crowd of 17,248 Monday.

The Twins had a chance to break through with men on second and third and two out in the seventh when Sean Doolittle came out of the bullpen to face Joe Mauer, the veteran lefty who remains the Twins' top hitter.Mauer got a terrific swing on Doolittle and scorched a liner headed toward right, but Alonso left his feet on a headlong dive, catching the ball to end the inning and the A's would not get another base runner as the bullpen saved Kendall Graveman's second win of the season.
