Rumor Central: Yonder Alonso open to extension with Athletics?

First baseman Yonder Alonso hasn't ruled out signing a possible extension with the Oakland Athletics, but his numbers this season could price him out of East Bay, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick tweets.

In 85 games this year, Alonso is slashing .273/.373/.556 with 21 home runs and 45 RBIs. The 30-year-old is coming off the first All-Star selection of his eight-year major league career.

The last-place A's are projected to be sellers at the trade deadline and Alonso, an impending free agent, has been mentioned as a potential chip. However, Crasnick notes that the market for Alonso "got tighter" when the New York Yankees acquired Todd Frazier from the Chicago White Sox, and it's hard for contenders that need a rental at first base or a designated hitter.
